DESCRIPTION:

 

 

 

 

 

  • The Supervisor of SPSW’s is responsible for ensuring the successful planning, implementation, evaluation and ongoing development of supports provided by the Student Parent Support Workers. The position will oversee the work of several student/parent support workers, and will work in concert with other members of the project team to ensure the effective planning and delivery of academic, social and financial supports.

Qualifications (e.g., skills, experience, degrees, certifications, etc.)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Minimum of five years’ work experience with secondary school students
  • Strong and current knowledge ofOntariocurriculum, as well as special education, guidance, social work,SafeSchoolsand related policies and practices gained through work with youth
  • Minimum five years’ experience counselling students and parents at the secondary school level; experience supervising staff to advocate for young people within secondary schools and communities. 
  • Knowledge and/or experience of informal individual and family counselling techniques, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Significant experience building partnerships with community or social service agencies, knowledge of different systems: social services, health, legal
  • Strong experience in program development within a diverse community environment
  • Knowledge of approaches to providing support to youth with special education or new language learning needs
  • Knowledge ofScarboroughVillageand surroundingScarboroughcommunity a definite asset
  • Access to a vehicle an asset

 

EDUCATION:

 

 

Graduate or post-graduate certification in Social Work, Education, community development or related discipline
