Position Description

 In line with Child Welfare Transformation and within the context of promoting child mental health, it has been identified that there is a need for assessment and clinical consultations at early stages of foster care placements as well as for children experiencing multiple placements. In collaborative efforts to address theses issues York Region Children Aid Society and Blue Hills Child and Family Centre developed a program entitled Children in Care Enrichment Services (CCES).

The successful applicant will provide comprehensive assessments, consultations and brief services to children/youth that are in the care of the York Region Children’s Aid Society (CAS) to better meet the children/youth’s needs and support permanency planning for them.  The successful candidate will also be expected to provide training on children’s mental health to the Foster Care Community of York Region.

Qualifications (e.g., skills, experience, degrees, certifications, etc.)

The successful applicant for this position will ideally hold a Masters Degree in Social Work or related field and eligibility for registration in a related Professional College. In addition, the individual will have a minimum of three years extensive clinical experience with families, children/youth and children/youth in care, be able to apply theory and conceptual clinical understanding, conduct and formulate thorough child and family assessments; possess theoretical and evidence based knowledge of child development, family systems as well as related fields of knowledge such as Trauma, Attachment theory and Crisis Intervention.  

 

The successful applicant will coordinate and case manage the assessment and consultation process, meet with key members in the child/youth life, collaborate with service team at CAS, consult with the program’s psychiatrist and psychologist, demonstrate competency in verbal, written and applied communication and  interpersonal skills with clients, collaterals and colleagues;  will have a willingness to work in a variety of settings as needed; demonstrated excellent time management, organizational skills, and presentation skills; be able to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrate computer literacy and familiarity with computer technology for data entry.

 

Additional requirements:

Eligibility for membership in the appropriate professional regulatory body, a valid driver’s license, $2 million vehicle liability insurance, two step TB test and a vulnerable sector screening are required.
