  • Eating disorders can be seriously debilitating conditions. Timely and appropriate intervention for the young person is essential to prevent chronicity and the diminished quality of life that too often results when left untreated. Unfortunately, there are significant gaps in the continuum of specialized care for this population in the province of Ontario.
  • Safeguards is partnering with the Ontario Community Outreach Program For Eating Disorders to help expand the reach of training and further develop connections between agencies and the regional eating disorder programs so agencies can access support services when needed.
  • The mandate of the Outreach Program is to promote the spectrum of age-appropriate care throughout all regions of the province. Educating and supporting practitioners can facilitate access to community-based care for people with eating disorders. Regionalization of the continuum of care insures accessibility to timely and appropriate intervention.
  • The 2 hour presentation hosted by the Regional Eating Disorder Program of Northeastern Ontario will address: What is an eating disorder, what are the medical and psychological consequences of having an eating disorder, how does the Regional Eating Disorders Program of Northeastern Ontario work, how to make a referral and how to offer meal time support.

  • This videoconference presentation is primarily for agencies who are within the Northeastern catchment area: Hospital video conference sites have been requested at Timmins and District Hospital, Sault Area Hospital, Claude Ranger Clinic, North Bay and 127 Cedar St, Sudbury and there will be Eating Disorder Clinicans at these sites. Other hospital sites may be requested as needed.
