  • Eating disorders can be seriously debilitating conditions. Timely and appropriate intervention for the young person is essential to prevent chronicity and the diminished quality of life that too often results when left untreated. Unfortunately, there are significant gaps in the continuum of specialized care for this population in the province of Ontario.
  • Safeguards is partnering with the Ontario Community Outreach Program For Eating Disorders to help expand the reach of training and further develop connections between agencies and the regional eating disorder programs so agencies can access support services when needed.
  • The mandate of the Outreach Program is to promote the spectrum of age-appropriate care throughout all regions of the province. Educating and supporting practitioners can facilitate access to community-based care for people with eating disorders. Regionalization of the continuum of care insures accessibility to timely and appropriate intervention. This workshop is a partnering between Safeguards and the Eating Disorder team from the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
  • Working with youth with EDs can be difficult, especially in a community setting, although also very rewarding. This workshop is designed to help community therapists, counsellors, dieticians, medical practitioners and other caregivers better understand youth with eating disorders and how to recognize, support and treat them. The focus will be on connecting with these youth, containing their symptoms, and engaging them in individual, family and group therapy.
  • Audience: Clinicians/therapists, child and youth workers, intake workers, paediatric and adult nurses, paediatricians, physicians, dietitians and all professionals working in but not limited to mental health and addiction fields.
