Tim Hortons is bringing more smiles to Cobourg, Port Hope and Colborne with the launch of the annual Smile Cookie fundraiser. For one week starting Sept. 17, Tim Hortons restaurant owners in Northumberland County will generously donate all proceeds from sales of a special smiling chocolate chunk cookie to Kinark Child and Family Services (Northumberland County). The $1 treat helps charities, hospitals and community programs across Canada in the cities where they are sold. The fundraiser runs Sept. 17 to 23.
Kinark Child and Family Services is the largest children’s mental health organization in Ontario, providing expert help to children and youth, their families and communities. Kinark offers a range of treatment services in Northumberland County including individual, family and group counseling. Close to 600 local families receive services each year. These services are provided to children who are living at home or youth living on their own in the community.
Kinark offers everything from help for children and youth with chronic and multiple mental health issues to parenting advice, intensive treatment and support to youth in conflict with the law and an extensive range of programs for children and youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
What began as a way to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children's Hospital in Ontario in 1996, has grown into a major fundraising event across North America. In 2011 alone, the Smile Cookie campaign raised $4 million across Canada and the United States. Nationally, Tim Hortons restaurant owners support more than 345 local charities through the campaign.
